Wendy Golding

Painter
Although I was passionate about painting and creating artwork from a young age, I chose not to attend art college. Instead, I carried on making art in my spare time whilst working, getting married, and raising my children. For many years, I enjoyed working within the Deaf Community in my role as a BSL Sign Language Communicator and Interpreter. In 2021, I decided to seize the opportunity to pursue art professionally and finally embraced the career I had longed for—something I now realise I should have done two decades earlier!
I strive to interpret the world around me in an emotive and intuitive manner. My process involves using spontaneous marks and lines to convey movement, light, and texture. My work features both fine, delicate layers and sections of heavy texture. I am particularly drawn to Abstract Expressionism, as its emphasis on emotional, spontaneous, and abstract responses aligns closely with my own creative philosophy.
At present, I am developing a series inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi—repairing ceramics with gold—and the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi that underpins it. I use a range of mixed media, including acrylics, inks, textured materials, and artist gold leaf. Additionally, I am experimenting with organic mediums such as marble dust and sand to enrich the surfaces and textures of my work.
I am passionate about making art accessible to everyone. During my time as one of the founding directors of Gloucester Contemporary Artists (GCA) I proposed the ‘Adopt an Artist Window Art Trail’ in city centre business windows. I was delighted to see it grow into an annual event and become a significant and successful part of GCA’s presence within the city. I believe strongly in GCA's ethos of supporting the community.
