Laura Cooper

Textiles & mixed media

I gained a BA Hons. Degree at Corsham (BAA) and, later, worked freelance as an illustrator and designer for publishing and editorial. I went on to do my PGCE as an art teacher in schools and as artist-in-residence.

By my mid-thirties, I fell in love with 5Rhythms Dance practice. This provided opportunities for me to photograph international dance companies, along with working with dancers in the landscape, resulting in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Southwest. In order to capture the ecstatic energy of the human body in movement, I experimented with time lapse photography and darkroom printing techniques.

Throughout my development as an artist, I continue to explore and develop by integrating a variety of media, including textiles, slow stitch and paint. The overarching subject matter I have always been drawn to is primarily figurative, whether human or elements found within the natural world.
