Chris Hardman
Painter
Chris Hardman studied painting, drawing and printmaking at Harrow and Sheffield Colleges of Art, from 1969 to 1973 (BA Hons 2.1), and spent a post-graduate year at the Ruskin School of Drawing in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford from 1974 to 1975.
After working for a number of years as a primary school teacher he became a senior lecturer in Higher Education, teaching painting, drawing and computer graphics to students studying for Bachelor of Arts Honours Degrees. In 1996 he moved to Cornwall to become a professional artist.
Chris has exhibited widely in the UK and his pictures can be found in private collections as far field as the USA and Japan.
His subjects varied from Cornish landscapes to scenes that can be observed on the beaches of the small fishing coves dotted around the Lizard Peninsula. Chris works in watercolour and oil paint and is also an experienced painter of portraits.
In March 2016 he set up a studio in Krowji, a creative “hub” in Redruth, where he began to work on a more ambitious scale and extend the range of his subjects.
In October 2017 he moved to Fairford in Gloucestershire where he continued further developments in his work with large pen, brush and ink drawings which have become central to recent developments in his work.
Chris now lives in Brockworth and is currently artist in residence at The Folk.
